Excessive Sweating

Excessive sweating, also known as hyperhidrosis, is a medical condition most commonly associated with the armpit but can also affect other body parts.

What is excessive sweating?

Excessive sweating, known as hyperhidrosis, is a medical condition where the sweat glands work too hard and produce an excess of sweat.

This condition can cause some individuals to sweat profusely, even if they are doing minimal activity. Besides disrupting normal daily activities, this type of excessive sweating can cause social anxiety and embarrassment.

There are two recognised types of hyperhidrosis; primary and secondary.

Primary hyperhidrosis is where excessive sweat occurs in the hands, feet and underarms for no apparent reason.

Secondary hyperhidrosis is a condition caused by a particular medication or another form of health condition. Secondary hyperhidrosis also causes excessive sweating all over the body, instead of in specific areas.
